Bogland
In third year I created a body of work that was based around my findings in the local bog close to my home. My project was titled Bogland as majority of my final research and pieces were inspired by the Bord na Mona bogs, which I have recently found out are closing down. These bogs have a strong connection with my family and are located close to my home. My aim was to create simple but elegant wearable pieces that connected with my research. My final designs were based upon the mechanical forms that are now ruins on the boglands, I created wire drawings of these forms and based the designs on the free form wire drawings. I quite liked the roughness that was created with the copper wire as it created bold looking pieces which reflected the majestic nature of the bog.
Workshop with Jackie Coffeey
While in third year we had a series of workshops, one included a workshop with Jackie Coffeey, a contemporary designer who is a past pupil at NCAD. She encouraged us mixing and meshing materials together to explore forms and textures. I looked at some of my primary resources of the landscapes that I had taken anD used those colours to inspire my work.
