Teaching Practice
‘Teaching is the highest form of understanding.’ –Aristotle
Philosophy of Teaching
"Teaching is a process of learning from your students, colleagues, parents, and the community. This is a lifelong process where you learn new strategies, new ideas, and new philosophies. Over time, my educational philosophy may change, and that's okay. That just means that I have grown and learned new things."
I know that my philosophy as a teacher will change as I immerse myself into the world of being an educator, as for now my main aspirations being a teacher are to be welcoming, calm and open minded. I know these sound like ideal characteristics and what teacher wouldn't want to have these qualities. I feel that this year I connected my role as a teacher with my artist self more so than ever before I used my skills and creative thinking ways to be calm in hearing new ideas in the classroom. Being on my placement I found a link between the two worlds as an artist and an educator how to have a balance as an artist and an educator. For example, I want to always step outside the box as an artist but this year I encouraged myself especially as a teacher as I found taking on tasks that are unfamiliar or unachievable is what the students feel like with every new craft that you teach in the classroom, so how do I stay open minded and stay out of the box to keep myself on my toes. These thoughts and ideas are how I know that my philosophies will change, I am staying open minded. I want to make a promise to myself to keep in touch with the up and coming, the new ways of teaching and how to have an exciting classroom environment.

I understand the classroom is a place of learning and that there should be authority and respect present within the learning experience. I believe as a teacher I will show my love for the subject and this will translate and emphasise the respect I have for the materials and equipment in the classroom. I refuse to believe that putting fear into students is a form of teaching, students should be encouraged and believed in, as teachers we are moulding minds of the youth and that is a gift to us. That is why I agree that we will learn as much from them or perhaps even more than what we will teach.
