Teaching Practice

Primary Teaching and SEN

‘Education is not the filling of a pot but the lighting of a fire.’ –W.B. Yeats

Over the course of the last four years I have had a series of placements. I have gained lots of experience teaching in many different areas. I have experience with primary school, post-primary, a school with special education needs and also gained experience remote teaching while on placement.

Roslyn Park Collage, Sandymount

The Rehab Group is a charity that provides services for over 20,000 adults and children, and champions the value of diversity and inclusion for people with disabilities or disadvantage in their communities throughout Ireland and the UK. I was there along with three other student teachers to provide a 2 week programme for the students in Roslyn Park Collage and to give them insight to what projects in NCAD would be like. Coming up with an interesting scheme for a period of 2 weeks while team teaching the scheme together. This project required good teamwork and communication skills.

Star of The Sea B.N.S, Sandymount

Star of the Sea B.N.S. was established in 1878 and is a Catholic boys’ primary school with a Catholic Ethos under the patronage of Archbishop of Dublin. It caters for pupils aged from 4 to 13 years. Star of the Sea BNS seeks to enable the child to develop according to his potential in a caring environment, where each boy’s individual talents are nurtured and valued. The prevailing atmosphere is created by the actions and behaviours of everyone in the school. The behaviour of adults in a child’s life, including parents and teachers, is typically a significant influence on how the child acts.
