Observation four - Craft & Design Ms Sheriff

4/10 Ms. Sheriff LCA2 Art, Craft & Design 16/11/2020

  1. Professional teaching skills and ability: Communication, voice, terminology, personal qualities & pupils’ responses.

Students were creating sculptures and the classroom was a home ec kitchen so they had access to sinks to clean up after their class. Ms Sheriff was very clear on how the class was laid out they all had a specific seating arrangement and she helped the students one on one during the class as they were halfway through their project.

  1. Classroom management: Pupil activity, pupil behaviour.

As I mentioned they had a seating plan and this was a great way of separating any anti-social behaviour, some students were on their phones which was not permitted in the classroom but the student were allowed to listen to music during the class

  1. Presentation of learning content: Delivery of lesson, use of resources, visual aids, support studies.

The students sculptures were based around Identity so they ranged from trees, headphones, football boots and to tractors she was letting the students work from secondary resources that they had taken pictures of themselves. They were told to refer back to their pictures when working on the shape of their sculpture

  1. Effectiveness of planning: Clarity of intentions, quality of learning content, presentation.

It was a very messing class as they were using glue but the students were very good at cleaning up after themselves and tidied away whenever Ms Sheriff asked.

  1. Assessment and evaluation of pupils work in class.

The students were creating sculptures from cardboard of a subject that they were interested in and it was going to be assessed on their tidiness, the accuracy of their design and their finished outcome.
