Observation nine - Art, Craft & Design Mrs Conroy

9/10 5th year Art craft and design 9/12/2020

  1. Professional teaching skills and ability: Communication, voice, terminology, personal qualities & pupils’ responses.

Address’ the class on time management and makes sure they are all aware of clean up and putting their own belongings away. If something goes missing I want you to be able to say that you didn’t leave it on the desk behind you!

  1. Classroom management: Pupil activity, pupil behaviour.

Students were working away at different crafts in this class, half and half on lino and clay. The students were sat at tables beside people who were doing the same activity to share materials. The students all know where the materials are so Mrs Conroy allowed them to work away as she circled the classroom and spoke to the students about how they were getting on.

  1. Presentation of learning content: Delivery of lesson, use of resources, visual aids, support studies.

No real resources in this class as she was offering specific advice to students, on artists for their visual research and making sure the students were working from primary sources.

  1. Effectiveness of planning: Clarity of intentions, quality of learning content, presentation.

The students have made research and progress pages in their notebooks, that I am able to look through you can see some have put a lot more effort into the research outside of class as well as those who have not. As I’m observing this class I am understanding how important it is to give the students research tasks to do at home as its so easy to completely forget about art once you leave the classroom as most of the students work cannot be brought home to complete.

  1. Assessment and evaluation of pupils work in class.

This work will be marked alongside an art history exam for the Christmas report card and their crafts will be marked out of 75
